The Early Girl Plus hybrid tomato is the latest improvement in this extremely popular variety. It is very close to the original but now has Tomato Spotted Wilt Virus resistance. Just as the name implies, these tomatoes are as rich-tasting as fine brandy. The deep pink-purple beefsteaks vary in size from 8 to 16 ounces, and have exquisite flavor, a super blend of just the right sugar and acid. A young plant breeder named Jason Cavatorta started his own research company, motivated by his passion for delicious food. He wanted to make a better-tasting tomato, and his efforts won the prestigious All-America Award in his first attempt. Judges called the Galahad tomato delicious, juicy, and meaty, with large 8 to 12-ounce, crack-tolerant fruit. The strong 4-foot plant boasts excellent productivity and holding ability and is packed with disease resistances including V, F1, F2, F3, Nematodes, Gray leaf spot, Tomato Spotted Wilt Virus, and Late Blight. When I first grew this variety, I was pleasantly surprised to find a delicious large orange beefsteak that was so fast to ripen and a very heavy producer. This is a modern version of the marmande tomato, a type grown in Southern France and well known for its ribbed shape and delicious taste.
