The Shasta Daisy is named after Mt. Shasta in California because the white petals are so attractive, and because they resemble the snow that covers Mt. Shasta year-round. It is a perennial in zones 5-9 (with a few exceptions). Brilliant white petals complement the sunshine yellow in the center of the flower. You can start the seeds indoors 6 to 8 weeks before the last frost, covering with no more than 1\/8th of an inch of soil. Keep the soil moist and at 70 degrees. Germination can take up to 20 days. Transplant well after the last chance of frost. This daisy requires well-drained soil. Do not allow water to accumulate. You can also direct seed well after the final frost. You can snip off fading flowers to encourage new blooms.
